If you are looking for an effective way to combine a social media strategy with your community involvement, consider the examples of Shimmy Braun and Mike Metz.
Braun, Guaranteed Rate, Chicago, Ill., developed a Facebook marketing tactic as part of his overall social media campaign, which also includes Tweets and Linked-in messages. In a note to his followers/Facebook friends, he explained that “For every new Like on my Guaranteed Rate FB page, I will be donating $5 to Kids of Courage, a charity that is dedicated to sick children and their families in times of need.” Every time someone clicks on Like, Braun’s contribution to the worthwhile charity increases. As of mid-December, more than 700 people had responded; representing a $3,500+ donation to the Kids of Courage.
“It is a great way to promote your social media activity, in this case generating interest in my Facebook page,” Braun noted. “Generally, the more Likes of your Facebook page, the more impressive it appears.”
Metz, Guaranteed Rate, Scottsdale, Ariz., has developed a similar campaign. His notice announced “For every new Like on my FB page I will be donating $5 to the Melonhead Foundation, a 501(c)(3) organization that supports the needs of children with cancer and their families. I’ve been a longtime supporter of this organization, and I thought I’d start off 2014 with a charitable push to raise awareness and goodwill. So please stop by, like my page, and share it with your friends. I’ll donate another $5 if you share it with your friends on FB: http://a.pgtb.me/s5PFJZ.”
Braun emphasized that in addition to generating general visibility, such campaigns also can result in more business. “When some of my customers and others have gone to my Facebook page, they were reminded about their potential interest in a loan. They then message me about interest rates and related topics, which often leads to a refinance or purchase loan.”
Metz encourages others to take advantage of Facebook promotions and other social media strategies. “Facebook, and for that matter all social media, is a powerful tool if you know how to use it,” he said. “It is currently one of the best and easiest ways to keep your brand/service at the forefront of people’s minds. This specific promotion allows us to share our brand to a larger audience, and at the same time create awareness and raise money for a great cause.”
